Choose your state, license class, and endorsements to organize a study plan. Those selections are not a licensing determination, and they are not a claim that every state’s manual is fully covered. Check your current official manual for what applies to you.
Practice tests
General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles, HazMat, Tank Vehicles, Doubles/Triples, Passenger, School Bus. Full access includes the lessons, practice questions with explanations, review of missed and saved questions, and mock exams. The app is in English and Spanish on iPhone and Android.
Study progress and saved questions stay on the device and do not sync between phones. An internet connection is needed for account and purchase verification. Read the app features and pricing.

Free official resources
The document that controls the knowledge test is your state’s current commercial driver manual. The manual index links to the agency page or PDF we could verify for each state.
When entry-level driver training applies, the provider has to be on FMCSA’s Training Provider Registry. The school directory is a state-by-state view of registry locations. A practice app does not replace that training.
The federal passing rule for each knowledge test is at least 80 percent, in 49 CFR 383.135. The CDL test page explains that rule and the state examples.

How to choose
Use the store listing and your state manual together. Three checks:
- State manual. Confirm the app is a study aid and that you still read the manual your licensing agency posts. Question counts and extra state tests vary. Start from your state page.
- Endorsements. List the tests your agency requires, then see whether the app’s own description names those subjects. This page does not score other apps on endorsement coverage.
- Offline use. Read the listing if you need to study without a connection. This page does not assign offline support to any app. CDL Prep Hero keeps study progress on the device, and account or purchase checks need an internet connection, as the app page describes.
The eight practice tests on this website are free in a browser. They are original questions with explanations, not the official exam.

Your state licensing agency publishes the commercial driver manual. FMCSA's Training Provider Registry lists registered entry-level driver training providers. Those are free official resources. A practice app is not a substitute for the manual or for required training.

Search for a registered training provider. A school that is not on this registry cannot be used to meet ELDT. - 49 CFR 383.135: Passing knowledge and skills tests
At least 80 percent on each knowledge test. Failing air brakes requires an air-brake restriction if a CLP or CDL is issued. Failing the combination-vehicle test blocks a Group A CLP or CDL. - 49 CFR 383.133: Test methods
FMCSA question pool. Knowledge tests may be in a foreign language without an interpreter. A retake uses a different version. Skills tests are in English, in order: pre-trip inspection, basic vehicle control, on-road skills.
